Qualification Examinations

In accordance with the provisions of Law 3404/2005 as amended by Law 4218/2013 (FEK 268 / 10-12-2013 A΄) and the provisions of M.D. F.1/192329 / B3 (FEK 3185 / 16-12-2013) is possible to rank candidates for undergraduate studies in the Department of Physics after examinations.

Specifically for the 2019-20 academic year the courses and subjects are:

 

1. MECHANICS

Motion in one dimension. Motion in two dimensions. Particle dynamics. Work and energy. Energy conservation. Momentum conservation. Particle collisions. Kinematics of rotation. Angular momentum conservation. Rigid bodies. Oscillations. Gravitational force. Fluid statics and dynamics. 

2. DIFERENTIAL AND INTEGRAL CALCULUS

Real functions of one variable. Limits and continuity. Derivative and differential. Applications of derivatives. Indefinite, definite and improper integral. Applications of integrals. Sequences, series, power series, Taylor power series. Ordinary first-order differential equations: separation of variables, linear. Second-order differential equations: homogeneous, linear with constant coefficients.

3. ELECTROMAGNETISM

Electric charge. Electric field and Gauss law. Electric potential. Capacitors and dielectrics. Electric properties of matter. Electric current and resistance. Electromotive force and circuits. Magnetic field. Biot-Savart and Ampere-Faraday law. Self-induction. Magnetic properties of matter. Alternating current and RCL circuits. Maxwell equations and electromagnetic waves.

Applications and supporting documents are to be submitted to the Secretariat of the Department from 1 to 15 November each year.

The supporting documents are:
1. Application
2. Degree copy or certificate of studies completion. For foreign graduates a certificate of equivalence of degree is also submitted by the Interdisciplinary Academic Degree Recognition and Information Organization (DOATAP) or by the institution responsible for recognizing the degree.

The qualifying exams take place yearly, between December 1st and December 20th, according to the program to be announced.
