General
In order to receive the Bachelors Degree a student should successfully attend a series of courses which correspond to 240 ECTS credits (at least). From these, 178 ECTS credits must be accumulated from the core courses of the Department (as listed in Table A), at least 20 ECTS credits from the General Topic Elective Courses of Table B and the remaining 42 ECTS credits from a combination of elective courses of Tables B, C and D and/or Diploma Thesis and/or Work Placement. Only one of the two courses numbered 405 (Environmental Physics) and 408 (Introduction to Astrophysics) can be considered as a core course. In case less than 8 students register for an elective course, the course is offered only if the corresponding Section has the necessary teaching resources.
The allocation of ECTS credits per semester and course is presented in Table A.

Categories of Courses
During their studies, the students attend courses, which are divided into the following categories:
Category A: Core Courses
In this category belong 30 core courses (the Foreign Language is also included) that are the most fundamental courses of the Department and from which the students must accumulate 178 ECTS units. These courses are offered by the Department every academic year during the winter or spring semester. The students must successfully attend 29 from these courses (choosing one of the courses: Environmental Physics or Introduction to Astrophysics).
Category B: Elective Courses – General Directions
In this category belong 13 elective courses from which the students must select, during their studies, at least four, which correspond to at least 20 credit units. The above four courses do not include one of the courses Environmental Physics or Introduction to Astrophysics which has been selected as a core course.
Category C: Elective Courses – Special Topics in Physics
In this category belong the elective courses, which correspond to 4 credit units each.
Category D: Elective Courses – Various Topics
In this category belong the elective courses which belong to the field of didactics in Physics, as well as courses from other Departments to which no credit units have been attributed.
Category E: Elective Courses – Diploma Thesis
Students who are at least in the 7th semester of their studies and have successfully completed their examinations, until the last examination period before the registration for the course, in courses that correspond to at least 120 ECTS units may choose the course “Diploma Thesis” which has duration of two semesters and corresponds to 10 ECTS units.
Category F: Work Placement
From the 6th semester onwards, a student may be engaged, for a specific period of time (3-6 months), in Greek or international organisations and companies of the public and private sector having as an objective his/her Work Placement and specialisation in subjects related to the area of Physics. In case of a positive assessment, 3 ECTS units are awarded to the student’s record. These units are admeasured to the total of 240 that are necessary for a degree to be awarded but no grade is registered.
In the framework of European Exchange Programmes (ERASMUS), the students are given the possibility to carry out part of their studies (up to two academic semesters) abroad, with the courses at which they are successfully examined being recognised by the home institute. In addition, it is possible for the students, in the framework of the same Programme, to carry out their Work Placement abroad, definitely prior to receiving their degree.
Appendix
The following appendix enlists Tables showing the distribution of courses in the categories Α, Β, C, D and the corresponding ECTS credits for each course. For further information about the courses the student is reffered to the Studies Guide of the Department. The courses numbers are those used in the Studies Guide of the Department.
